Introduction

  • This is a special course that has carefully been designed for students beginning their journey in Qur'anic recitation.
  • The course is based on the "Practical Tajweed Through Juz 'Amma" textbook which takes students through Juz 'Amma whilst mildly encountering the Tajweed rules.
  • The focus is more on application and, as such, this is a non-conventional order of presenting the Tajweed rules.
  • It is hoped that this will be an easy and facilitated transition into reciting the book of Allah correctly.
  • Check the book out through this link:

Prerequisites

  • Sisters should be well acquainted with the basic building blocks of Qur'anic recitation, i.e, they should be able to recognise the letters, vowels and other diacritical marks.
  • Students should also be aware of the exit points of the letters and they should have, ideally, gone through a basic primer to practise the letters and other components of recitation.
  • The perfection of letters can slowly be achieved throughout this course, inshaa Allah. However, the best benefit will be attained by those who have taken extra time to exclusively practise their letters.
  • Students must be determined and ensure they practise every lesson to the best of their ability, inshaa Allah.

Course Setting and Outcomes

  • This course will be in a group setting online via zoom.
  • Most recitation practise will be done as a group. If there is scope for individual recitation then this will be facilitated, inshaa Allah.
  • As stated before, this course is specifically for beginners. This is the first step, but hopefully inshaa Allah not the last.
  • Students may consider moving onto individual teachers after this course, if they wish to advance their knowledge and gain further precision in their Qur'anic recitation. They may also decide to repeat the course if they so wish.
  • This course is by no means preparing a Qur'an teacher. Students do not have any permission to teach by virtue of their attending this course. This is a personal journey to rectify one's recitation sincerely for Allah Ta'alaa.
  • The book includes 47 lessons. Hence, the course is expected to last at least one year, inshaa Allah.

Optional Memorisation Element

  • The course has also been designed such that memorisation is also facilitated, inshaa Allah.
  • In order to achieve the memorisation of Juz 'Amma, students should memorise the portions taught in weekly sessions and present it to their teacher.
  • It is hoped that the gradual nature of the course will make the journey easier, inshaa Allah.
  • Students should ensure they have time to both memorise and revise portions as they progress, inshaa Allah.
